Three homes recognised at the DMN Building Design Awards

Two wins, an honourable mention and a happy team.

On Friday 16 October, we joined our peers for the 2026 Design Matters National Building Design Awards, where The Seventh, The King and The Stirling were recognised. We’re pleased to share the news, and to give a little credit to the people behind these homes.

Projects take years, and by the time they’re photographed, we’ve usually moved straight into the next thing. An evening like this gives us a reason to stop, look back and appreciate what everyone has put into them. Getting dressed up and spending time together outside the studio is a welcome bonus.

The Seventh

Winner - Alteration and Addition

At The Seventh in Inglewood, the brief was to make an existing character home work better for family life. The addition brings light and a stronger connection to the outdoors, while retaining the jarrah floors and archways that were already part of the home.

Angled ceiling planes and high-level glazing give the new spaces their own character. It’s a compact addition by intent, with careful attention to how each space is used.

The King

Winner - Alteration and Addition

The King in East Fremantle was designed for clients entering a new stage of life. The home makes room for the way they want to live now, with a retained jacaranda, an upstairs living space and a stone fireplace among its defining features.

There’s a particular satisfaction in working with an existing home: understanding what matters to its owners, deciding what to keep and finding opportunities for change.

The Stirling

Honourable Mention - New Home

The Stirling in Mount Lawley was designed around relaxed family life and entertaining. North-facing living spaces form the heart of the home, with a straightforward layout that makes moving between inside and out easy.

Black weatherboard, white render, concrete and steel give the home a restrained palette, with texture and natural light bringing warmth to the spaces.

Credit where it’s due

To our team, thank you for the ideas, care and persistence you bring to the work, including all the less visible parts that make a finished home possible.

To our clients, thank you for trusting us with your homes and being so involved in the process. And to the builders, consultants, trades and collaborators behind these projects, we’re very pleased to share this recognition with you.

Congratulations to the other winners and everyone who entered. It was a pleasure to spend the evening together and see the breadth of work being produced across our industry.

A happy night for our studio.
