Designed for modern rituals

The owners of ‘The Stirling’ engaged &Dalecki to design a carefully tailored home that reflects their lifestyle and values. Seeking a refined yet relaxed retreat from their demanding professional lives, the couple moved closer to the city to enjoy more of what they love – travel, food, and effortless entertaining. Defined by light-filled, free-flowing spaces, minimal detailing, and luxe yet low-maintenance materials, The Stirling delivers a functional family home that prioritising ease of living, while reflecting the clients’ love of minimalist design.

Tucked at the end of a battle-axe block in Mount Lawley, the compact site demanded a pragmatic design approach to deliver maximum impact. The home’s simple, efficient form is enlivened by thoughtful detailing and tactile materials—black weatherboard cladding, smooth white render, concrete accents and feature steel supports—offering sharp contrasts in tone that balance minimalism and warmth, privacy and presence.

The plan unfolds into an open, north-facing living zone designed to embrace the outdoors. At one end, a concrete plinth and exposed stack-bond brick wall anchor a cosy lounge area; at the other, a striking kitchen forms the heart of the home—a celebration of the couple’s love of cooking and casual entertaining. Black granite  benchtops and a sculpted, battened island define the space, complemented by an eight-seater dining table and recessed buffet. Sliding doors connect this volume seamlessly to the alfresco, lawn and pool – an idyllic backdrop for long lunches, evening drinks, and spontaneous gatherings.

A guest bedroom and bathroom are discreetly tucked away on the ground floor, offering comfort and privacy for visiting friends or family. Upstairs, a generous main suite features a window seat framing treetop views and glimpses of Perth’s skyline. Two additional bedrooms and a bathroom anticipate future growth, while a flexible sitting room provides space for quiet retreat, work, or play. Designed with flexibility in mind, the upper level adapts to the evolving needs of its occupants, ensuring longevity and relevance over time.

Throughout, a restrained palette of black, grey, and crisp white is brought to life with moments of texture—timber grain, raw concrete, brick, and mosaic tiling, animated by natural light shifts. Luxe accents reflect the homeowners’ polished style, while an emphasis on durability and simplicity ensures the home remains effortless to live in and maintain. Thoughtful view lines and pockets of greenery are woven throughout, reinforcing the home’s connection to the outdoors and offering moments of calm and visual interest throughout the day.

‘The Stirling’ offers a refined backdrop for daily rituals and weekend gatherings alike – an urban hideaway that balances style and substance, intimacy and openness. With its clean lines, robust materials, and intentional planning, the design elevates the lives of its owners, offering a place to retreat, to gather, and to grow – designed to keep pace with a life well lived.

From the Owners

Imagine, it's early 2021 and the Perth property market is going nuts. You impulse buy a block of land, sight unseen, and you have absolutely NO idea what you want to do with it... and build prices are skyrocketing by the day and are suddenly up 30%.

It's scary and you don't know what to do.

Sell it?
Invest?
Project build and flip?
Architecturally design your dream home?

Imagine our surprise when we compared cookie cutter to architectural...

One was pretentious, involved constant follow up, rude bugetary remarks, and a general arrogance you'd expect from a 1992 investment firm...

The other, a breath of fresh air... client focused, cost and environmentally conscious, adaptable, HONEST and TRANSPARENT, with a proactive finger on the building market pulse; architecturally designed with a focus on creating a structural masterpiece that is not only timeless but functional with a rate of return that makes you question why anyone other than a first home buyer would ever entertain a project build.

Our experience from start to finish with Dalecki was exceptional. The client focus is paramount and reflective of the home they have designed for us. It is obvious why he and the team are industry award winners. Responsive and incredibly well organised. Words cannot articulate the delight we experienced when the plans for our dream home were first presented and other than one minor tweak (because I must be the first woman on the planet who didn't want a WIR) were absolutely perfect.

It was as though Janik had literally stepped into our minds and extracted our dream home from a jumble of chaotic dreams and aspirations. The process was absolutely stress free and so enjoyable. We would do it again in a heartbeat except for the fact our new home is absolutely perfect and we wouldn't change a thing!

We were so pleased with the process, we also opted for their interior selections. By now we had learned to "trust" the design process, however, again, must concede our expectations were exceeded with the perfect matrimony between the architectural structure and interior selections of our home.

If you're a little unsure of an architecturally designed home, or think it's exclusively reserved for the rich and famous, I'd strongly encourage you to challenge your bias and speak to the team at Dalecki.

Our experience has been seamless, stress free and has respectfully challenged our pre-conceived ideas around the type of person who builds an architecturally designed home. They really are for anyone who values functional, well thought out and clever designs and don't cost as much as you may think (like obviously there is a price, but you pay for what you get; quality). Dare I say, in this market, our choice to go custom has actually cost us less in the long run with our projected build delivered pretty well on track thanks to Dalecki's strong working relationships with industry professionals and we now have a high quality, beautiful home that will be timeless for decades to come.

We'd give 10 stars if we could!
